Annapurna Circuit Trek and Tour Overview

This is an epic trek that shows you the true beauty of the Annapurna region which is known for its landscapes throughout the world…

We embark on a model trek said to be one of the best in Nepal, and the most sought after in the world. Our hike goes through dense foliage forests to the meager Tibetan plateau, as we hike passing through pretty ethnic villages of Gurungs, Tamangs, Magars, Thakalis, Manangis, Brahmins and Chhetris. A most exciting part of our journey is going across the formidable Thorung La Pass at 5416m. – Which gives us some of the most brilliant views of the Annapurnas, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Lamjung and Tibetan Himalaya ranges that flow for miles beyond the horizons as far as our eyes could see…

The Annapurna Circuit is said to be one of the top most trekking trails for scenery on earth. This natural Circuit journey offers you the perfect combination of nature at its original best and cultural variety that would attract anthropologists in their hordes. This journey gives you a fantastic mix of sublime hiking, sightseeing and a cultural tour which creates a compact holiday experience of exotic proportions. You come face-to-face upfront with the striking Himalayan peaks of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and the sacred Machhapuchhre [fishtail] mountain. Climbers are not allowed to scale this mountain as it’s considered holy for the locals of this region…

The Annapurna region is an avenue where the vibrant colorful lifestyles of the Gurung, Magar and Manangi hill tribes live in perfect harmony with one another despite their traditional and religious differences in the laps of the majestic Himalayan Mountains in this wonderful zone of Mother Nature. The region blends its unique cultural beauty with the authentic attractiveness found at every corner of the trails that weaves its way around the circuit and excited trekkers are left enthralled by the marriage of these God given gifts to mankind. The highest elevation we go up to in the course of this venture is the high and Thorung La Pass at 5,416 m (17,769 ft). The views from here are majestic and dumbfounding as we hit the pass above the tree-lines.

Our Annapurna Circuit Trek commences from the regional outpost of Besisahar and conclusively ends at the same point of our trip. Besisahar is a small bustling town that lies within the fringes of the lake city of Pokhara. The trekking path leads us to the mountain settlement of Manang at 3,500m (11,482 ft) and as we hike the routes, we later go by the pilgrimage trail of the revered Muktinath temple, which attracts hordes of hindu pilgrims once every year in early autumn. ‘Family Adventure Treks and Expeditions’’ will escort you on this journey like no one else…

The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century Palace of 55 windows and Swoyambhunath.

03
Day 03: Drive to Chame

Today we will be driving to Chame from Kathmandu via Besisahar. This is a very beautiful drive with zigzag roads and beautiful scenario. overnight stay at chame

04
Day 04: Chame to Pisang (3185m.)

A steep and narrow path through a very dense forest will bring us to a vivid curved rock face, rising 1500m from the river. The forests and heavy vegetation would now be gone. We cross and re-cross the river again and again on airy suspension bridges. As the trail opens up we get surrounded by majestic Himalayan Peaks. We find ourselves in U-shaped valley of Manang hanging between two giant snow peaks. Upon walking through these wonderful sites we reach at Pisang. Overnight at Lower Pisang

05
Day 05: Pisang to Manang (3351m.)

After a warm b/fast, we continue through the arid part of the Manang district, cut off for most of the monsoons by the Annapurna Range. People of this region herd the yaks and cultivate crops for a part of the year. Leaving Pisang, we have optional trails from the north and the south of the Marsyangdi River which meets up again at Mungji. The southern route by Hongde, with its airstrip at 3,325m, involves less climbing than the northern route via Ghyaru, but we get better views on the trail that follows the northern bank of the river. From Mungji, the trail continues past the quaint but partly hidden village of Bryanga at 3,475m to the nearby Manang at 3,540m. Overnight at Manang

06
Day 06: Rest in Manang for acclimatization

Today it’s important to rest and acclimatize and explore Manang. We can use this day by doing some good hiking around and viewing the interesting sights around the village. At sundown, we return to our lodge for a night’s rest.

07
Day 07: Trek to Yak Kharka (4,000m)

As we move out of Manang after b/fast, the trails ascends by nearly 500m to Yak Kharka. We make the climb steadily through Tenki Manang, leaving the Marsyangdi Valley. Continuing along the Jarsang Khola Valley, we reach Yak Kharka at 4,000m. Herds of yaks and vegetations appear to thin out as we go higher. The trek is for around 3 hrs. Overnight at a teahouse lodge

08
Day 08: Trek to Thorong Phedi (4,450m) - 5 hrs

After a two-hour ascent the trail descends to cross the river at 4,310m. We then climb up to Thorong Phedi at 4,450m where decent guesthouses have been built in the recent years. This is a 3-4 hours trek. Overnight at a lodge

Today we reach the best part of our Annapurna circle trek. It will be a lifetime memorable experience – crossing the famous high pass, Thorong La (5416m/17764ft). An early start is important to complete the assignment. Each moment we have to work hard today through the icy high-altitude trail. But the wonderful high Himalayan scenes are a treat that our eyes love to watch more over the horizon than on our trail. At dusk, we will be at Muktinath. Muktinath is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhist. The area hosts a Vishnu temple and a Monastery nearby. Muktinath itself demonstrates the religious harmony in Nepal. Our hike takes overall 7-8 hours. Overnight at Muktinath

Day 10: Trek to Jomsom [2713m]

We now begin the descent down the dramatic Kali Gandaki valley, initially through arid country in the same geographical and climatic zone as Tibet. En route, we sight tremendous views of both Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. Jomsom is a large town sprawled along both banks of the Kali Gandaki River, and it is here we will spend the final night of our trek. [Walk approx 3 hours]

It’s a spectacular sight to relish and enjoy. Our cameras will go on overdrive at this spot. The hike takes about 6-7 hours approx. overnight at our lodge

13
Day 13: Rest at Ghorepani

We go for an Excursion to the Poon Hill, the highest hill in the west throughout the whole trek; the bird’s eye view of Mustang and Pokhara valleys are fantastic from this point, it also provides superb views of 30 snow-capped peaks including the Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri. Or walk to Tadapani in the afternoon is for about 4 hrs. Overnight at our lodge

It is a very easy trek by descending gently all the way through rhododendron, oak and other kinds of dense forests. You can hear different kinds of birds chirping on the way. This is a popular destination for the bird lovers. Ghandrung is a big Gurung village where there is a handicraft center and Gurung museum. This hike takes about 5-6 hours approx. overnight at our hotel in Pokhara

Day 16: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu

If we fly back to Kathmandu, it’s a 35 minutes flight, however, a Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist mini bus takes about seven hours.

While driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, we head up to Damauli, Dumre, Mugling and Kurintar where Nepal’s first cable car is operated to reach the Manakamana Temple [the temple of wishes].
