ABC is the foot of the 10th highest mountain in the world – Mount Annapurna. With an impressive height of 8,091m, the summit of this mountain provides a unique and mesmerizing Himalayan scenery. Many experienced trekkers claim that the Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of the most scenic adventures in the foothills of the Nepal Himalayas.
The trek takes you to a height of 4,130m above sea level at the base camp. This is the moment when you truly feel the royalty of Nepal’s mountains, which surround you all around. The ABC trek, being a moderate-level in difficulty, means that you do not require extreme fitness to be face to face against the gigantic Annapurna ranges. Even seniors with decent fitness, families, and couples have previously trekked with us. If you want to reach a base camp of an 8,000m+ mountain with moderate challenges, this is the best trek in Nepal for you.
As you trek through the trail, many charming villages welcome you with hospitality. Most of the settlements are of Gurungs and Magars. These are also among the popular mountain communities of Nepal. At Family Adventure Treks, we ensure that you enjoy a mix of nature and culture and have a worthwhile time in the heart of the Himalayas.
Quick Facts of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek:

Find Your Best Time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek:
Trekkers seem to be trekking in the region throughout the year. Each season provides you with a unique experience. But the best time to trek the Annapurna Base Camp is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). You are offered with best weather, clear skies, and comfortable trekking conditions during these times. This benefits the overall experience.
Spring, from March to May, is a beautiful time to trek when the weather starts to warm up and the days get longer. The thriving rhododendron forest provides lively colors to the trails. The sky is usually clear, and views of the Himals are fantastic. The temperatures are mild, which makes it a favorite to go for a long trek without having to face very cold or hot weather. Spring is especially recommended for nature lovers and photographers.
Autumn, from September to November, is considered the best and most popular season for trekking to the base camp. After the monsoon rain cleans the dust and pollution, the wind becomes sharp and the sky becomes clear. During these months, the Himalayan scenery is just fantastic. The weather is dry and stable, making the trails safe and more fun to traverse. Autumn is perfect for hikers who want a great trekking experience with excellent visibility, comfortable temperatures, and clean and distinct trekking trails.
Trekking is possible in winter (December to February). However, it comes with challenges. High altitude can be very cold, and snowfall can block parts of the trail. But, for those adapted with proper clothing, equipment, and planning, it provides a peaceful and scenic experience with low crowds and wonderful snow-covered landscapes.
The monsoon season, however, (June to August) is the least favorable time for trekking. Paths become muddy and slippery due to heavy rainfall. Fog and clouds often hide mountain scenes, and more likely, you’ll encounter a damaged route. However, this season offers green hills and cool trails to those who do not consider rain to be troublesome.
Food and Accommodation During the Treks:
Food are accommodation are important aspects to check out in any package. The quality of meals you are having and the lodges where you are staying directly determine the kind of experience you are having. Considering so, Family Adventure Nepal finds the best food and accommodation on the ABC trek.
At Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will be staying in a 3-star hotel managed by our team. It will be in the beautiful, bustling area of Thamel in Kathmandu, and in a Lakeside hotel in Pokhara. However, during the trekking period, you’ll be in one of the remotest areas of the Himalayas. That’s why finding standard hotels is not something to be expected. But, still, we’ll arrange a decent teahouse for you that comprises some basic facilities.
The package includes three times of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meal options include the local Dal bhat, Tibetan bread, momos, noodles, pasta, fried rice, soups, porridge, and others. Carry some extra Nepali cash in case you want to taste a wider variety of local dishes.
Travel Insurance and Trekking Permits:
You must know about the travel insurance and permits when coming for trekking in Nepal. Both are very crucial. On choosing the package of Family Adventure Nepal, you don’t have to worry about it at all. We will help you manage your ABC trek travel insurance and also get your required permits ready by the time you land in Nepal. Let’s understand in detail.
Unexpected incidents can happen at any time when trekking in high mountains like the Annapurna Base Camp. In such cases where trekkers’ health/life is at risk, the travel insurance comes out as a strong aid. This insurance covers your expenses of illness, injuries, and even helicopter evacuations. So, having it by your side is important.
Please note that the travel insurance is not included in the package, though we can help you get it if you want.
In order to trek legally in the Annapurna Region, you need an official permit. This is the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) Permit and helps support conservation efforts and sustainable tourism in the region. Besides, the fee for the permit also contributes to the trail maintenance.
